23 Prayer For Non Believer with Scriptures to Back

Rev. Thomas MarshBy Rev. Thomas MarshOctober 21, 2025No Comments14 Mins Read

There is no greater act of love than praying for someone who does not yet believe in God. When we lift nonbelievers before the Lord, we are asking Him to open hearts, soften minds, and reveal His truth in a way that only His Spirit can. Faith is not something we can force or fabricate—it is a divine awakening that begins when the Holy Spirit touches a person’s soul. Prayer becomes the bridge between their unbelief and God’s transforming grace. Through our prayers, seeds of truth are sown that will one day take root and bear fruit in their lives.

As Christians, we are called to love and intercede for everyone, even those who reject the message of the Gospel. It is through persistent prayer and patient love that hearts can be changed. Our role is not to argue or condemn but to reflect Christ’s compassion and truth through how we live and pray. The following verses and prayers are dedicated to those seeking divine intervention for friends, loved ones, or even strangers who have not yet embraced faith. May God use your prayers to awaken hearts, reveal His truth, and lead many into His saving grace.

23 Prayer For Non Believer

1. Ezekiel 36:26 (ESV)

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

This verse beautifully portrays God’s promise to transform hardened hearts. Only He can replace resistance with receptiveness and unbelief with faith. The Holy Spirit does what no human argument can—He renews hearts from within.

Lord, I ask that You touch the heart of every nonbeliever I’m praying for today. Remove their heart of stone and replace it with a heart that feels Your love and truth. Let Your Spirit move mightily within them, awakening faith and drawing them into Your embrace. Amen.

2. John 6:44 (KJV)

“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Jesus teaches that faith begins with divine calling. It is God Himself who draws the lost toward the light of His Son. Our prayers partner with this divine invitation, creating pathways for grace to move.

Father, I pray that You would draw every unbelieving soul closer to Christ. Let Your love and mercy break down walls of doubt and resistance. Bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus and let them find peace in Your eternal promise. Amen.

3. Romans 10:17 (ESV)

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

Faith is born through the power of God’s Word. The message of Jesus—heard, read, or seen through believers—ignites faith in hearts that once doubted. Every word of Scripture carries the spark of life.

Lord, let Your Word reach every nonbeliever in ways that touch their heart and open their spirit. Send faithful messengers, circumstances, and encounters that make Your truth clear. May their hearts come alive through hearing the message of Christ. Amen.

4. 2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV)

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ… should shine unto them.”

This verse reveals that unbelief often stems from spiritual blindness. The enemy clouds minds to prevent people from seeing the truth of the Gospel. But the light of Christ can break through any darkness.

Lord Jesus, shine Your light into the minds of those blinded by doubt and deception. Remove every lie that keeps them from knowing You. Let the brilliance of Your Gospel pierce through their darkness and bring them into saving faith. Amen.

5. 1 Timothy 2:3–4 (ESV)

“This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

God’s heart beats for the salvation of all people. His will is that none should perish, but that everyone would experience His truth. This verse reminds us that interceding for nonbelievers aligns perfectly with God’s desire.

Father, thank You for loving every soul, even those who deny You. I ask that Your mercy would reach them wherever they are. Let Your truth bring conviction, and may Your grace lead them to repentance and everlasting life. Amen.

6. Luke 19:10 (KJV)

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Jesus came with a mission—to seek out the lost and offer them salvation. His compassion extends to every corner of the earth, to those who have wandered far from Him. No heart is too distant for His love.

Lord Jesus, continue to seek and save the lost today. Go after those who have turned away from You and bring them home by Your Spirit. May they feel Your presence pursuing them with grace and forgiveness. Amen.

7. John 8:32 (ESV)

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Truth is liberating—it breaks chains of deception and unbelief. When a person encounters the truth of Christ, they experience true freedom for the first time. Every nonbeliever needs that moment of revelation where truth overtakes confusion.

Lord, I pray that Your truth would find those trapped in lies or confusion. Set them free with the knowledge of Your love and salvation. Let them experience the freedom that only comes from knowing You. Amen.

8. Acts 26:18 (KJV)

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God…”

This verse captures the purpose of the Gospel—to bring people out of spiritual darkness into the light of God. Only through divine revelation can the eyes of unbelievers be opened to truth.

Father, open the eyes of the lost and help them see the beauty of Your light. Deliver them from every chain of sin and deception. Lead them from darkness into the peace and joy of Your Kingdom. Amen.

9. Psalm 34:8 (ESV)

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”

Faith often begins with a personal experience of God’s goodness. When nonbelievers encounter His kindness, their hearts are softened toward Him. This verse is a call to experience the Lord firsthand.

Lord, let every unbelieving heart experience Your goodness today. Show them mercy, love, and favor that they cannot deny. Let Your blessings draw them into the safety of Your arms. Amen.

10. Matthew 9:37–38 (KJV)

“The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

There are countless souls ready to receive the Gospel but too few to deliver it. Jesus commands us to pray for more workers in His harvest field. Our prayers can empower missionaries, pastors, and believers to reach the unreached.

Lord of the harvest, raise up faithful witnesses who will share Your Word with boldness. Empower them to speak truth with love and reach those who are far from You. Let every heart that hears be ready to believe. Amen.

11. Romans 1:20 (KJV)

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”

This verse reminds us that God’s presence is evident in all creation. Even those who do not yet believe can see His power and majesty through the beauty and order of the world around them. Nature itself testifies that God is real and worthy of worship.

Lord, reveal Yourself through Your creation to those who doubt or deny You. Let the wonders of Your handiwork stir faith in their hearts. May they look upon the world and recognize the greatness of Your eternal power and divine nature. Amen.

12. 2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

God’s patience reveals His mercy toward unbelievers. He delays judgment to give people more time to repent and turn toward Him. His compassion reaches even those who seem furthest from faith.

Father, thank You for Your patient love and mercy. Give unbelievers time to see Your goodness and to repent. Let Your Spirit move within them so that they may come to know You before it’s too late. Amen.

13. John 12:46 (KJV)

“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”

Jesus came to bring light to a dark and fallen world. His light exposes sin but also reveals the way to salvation. Every unbeliever who turns to Him is led out of darkness into eternal life.

Lord Jesus, shine Your light into the hearts of those who live in darkness. Remove the shadows of fear, confusion, and disbelief. Let Your light guide them into Your truth and transform their lives completely. Amen.

14. Psalm 14:1 (ESV)

“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.”

This verse acknowledges the spiritual blindness of unbelief. Denying God leads people away from righteousness and into moral confusion. Yet even in their denial, God still offers redemption.

Lord, reach out to those who deny Your existence and soften their hardened hearts. Replace their disbelief with divine revelation. Let Your Spirit show them that true wisdom begins with knowing You. Amen.

15. Acts 16:14 (KJV)

“And a certain woman named Lydia… whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.”

Lydia’s story shows that only God can open the heart to receive truth. The Gospel message becomes powerful when the Holy Spirit prepares a person’s heart to listen. Prayer is the key that invites that divine work.

Lord, just as You opened Lydia’s heart, open the hearts of unbelievers to receive Your truth. Let Your Spirit make them receptive to the Gospel message. Transform their lives with the power of Your love and grace. Amen.

16. Titus 3:3–5 (ESV)

“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray… But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us.”

This verse reminds us that every believer was once lost. None of us found God on our own; He found us through His kindness and mercy. That same love is still reaching for every nonbeliever today.

Father, help me remember the grace that saved me so I can pray with compassion for others. Let Your goodness and mercy reach every lost soul. Save them through Your kindness and renew them by Your Spirit. Amen.

17. Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Salvation is purely the result of God’s grace. No one can earn it—it is a gift freely offered to those who believe. Nonbelievers need to see that faith, not performance, opens the door to eternal life.

Lord, help unbelievers understand that Your salvation cannot be earned but must be received by faith. Let them experience the wonder of Your grace. Draw them to accept Your gift of forgiveness and new life. Amen.

18. Jeremiah 24:7 (ESV)

“I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people and I will be their God.”

This verse reveals God’s desire for a personal relationship with His people. He alone can change the human heart and awaken spiritual understanding. His love transforms strangers into His children.

Lord, give unbelievers a heart to know You and recognize You as their God. Break through every wall of unbelief and pride. Let them discover Your love and find their identity as Your beloved children. Amen.

19. 1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV)

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

To unbelievers, the message of the cross can seem irrational or offensive. But when faith awakens, that same message becomes life and power. The Gospel holds the power to turn foolishness into faith.

Lord, open the eyes of those who see the cross as foolishness. Reveal its beauty and power to their hearts. Let them understand the sacrifice of Jesus and receive the salvation He offers freely. Amen.

20. Psalm 119:105 (ESV)

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

God’s Word brings direction and understanding to those who are lost. For unbelievers wandering in confusion, Scripture can become a beacon of hope. The Word has power to illuminate the darkest minds.

Father, let Your Word reach those who have yet to know You. Use it to guide their steps and light their path toward truth. May they find peace, purpose, and clarity through Your living Word. Amen.

21. 1 John 4:19 (KJV)

“We love him, because he first loved us.”

Faith begins not with human effort but with divine love. God’s love initiates, pursues, and transforms hearts. When unbelievers encounter that unconditional love, their resistance begins to fade.

Lord, reveal Your love to every heart that doesn’t yet know You. Let them experience the depth of Your compassion in personal and undeniable ways. May Your love lead them into a lasting relationship with You. Amen.

22. Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

Faith is the foundation of every relationship with God. It begins with believing He exists and trusting His goodness. Even the smallest spark of faith can ignite into a life-changing encounter with Him.

Father, awaken faith in the hearts of those who doubt You. Help them to take the first step toward believing and seeking You. Reward their seeking with Your presence and fill them with unshakable faith. Amen.

23. Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please.”

God’s Word always fulfills its purpose. Every prayer, every Scripture shared, and every act of love toward a nonbeliever carries divine power. His promises never return empty but bring life where there once was none.

Lord, let every Word spoken over unbelievers take root and flourish. May Your truth accomplish its purpose in their lives and lead them to salvation. Bring forth faith where there was once doubt and life where there was darkness. Amen.

Conclusion

Praying for nonbelievers is an act of deep compassion and faith. Every prayer you whisper plants a seed in someone’s life that the Holy Spirit can water and grow. God’s timing is perfect, and His grace is powerful enough to reach even the hardest heart. Never underestimate the strength of your intercession—it can be the difference between spiritual death and eternal life.

As you continue to pray for the lost, trust that God is already moving behind the scenes. His love is relentless, His mercy unending, and His desire for every soul unwavering. Keep believing, keep praying, and keep shining the light of Christ. For one day, your prayers will bear fruit, and the nonbelievers you lift up will stand beside you as believers in the glorious truth of Jesus Christ.
