Money struggles can weigh heavily on the heart, leaving us feeling anxious and unsure of the future. In times like these, turning to prayer reminds us that God cares about our needs and provides in His perfect timing. St. Matthew, once a tax collector called to follow Christ, is often remembered as a patron saint of financial matters because of his own journey of transformation and trust in God’s provision.

When financial burdens feel overwhelming, praying through the intercession of St. Matthew can bring both peace and hope. These prayers invite God to guide our steps, open new doors of opportunity, and grant the wisdom to use resources wisely. By grounding our requests in Scripture, we not only seek help for our financial needs but also deepen our trust in the One who supplies all things.

23 Prayer To St. Matthew For Financial Help

1. Philippians 4:19

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that God is not limited by earthly resources but gives abundantly from His heavenly storehouse. St. Matthew, who left behind worldly wealth to follow Christ, teaches us the power of trusting in divine provision. When we ask for financial help, we are not seeking luxury but God’s faithful care for our needs.

Lord, through the intercession of St. Matthew, I place my financial worries in Your hands. Grant me wisdom in handling what I have, open doors to new opportunities, and calm my anxious heart. May I learn to trust Your timing, knowing that You are a God of abundance and provision.

2. Matthew 6:33

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (ESV)

This verse calls us to focus first on God’s kingdom rather than being consumed by financial fears. St. Matthew’s life is an example of seeking Christ above wealth, which brought him lasting fulfillment. By putting God first, we trust that He will supply our daily bread and more.

Heavenly Father, I come before You with faith, asking St. Matthew to intercede for me in my time of need. Teach me to put Your kingdom above my fears and help me to stay faithful in prayer. Provide what my family and I require, and remind me that You are always working for our good.

3. Proverbs 3:9–10

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” (ESV)

Generosity is often the key to unlocking God’s blessings, even when finances feel tight. St. Matthew shows us the importance of giving to God first, trusting that He will multiply what remains. When we honor Him, we step into His promise of provision.

Lord, I ask through St. Matthew’s intercession for the strength to honor You with all I have. Even when resources are scarce, remind me to give with a grateful heart. Bless the work of my hands and let Your abundance overflow so I may provide for my family and help others in need.

4. Luke 12:24

“Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!” (ESV)

This verse assures us that if God cares for the birds, He surely cares for us. St. Matthew experienced God’s call to leave his job and trust entirely in His provision. We are reminded that our value to God is far greater than any earthly wealth.

Father, with the help of St. Matthew, I surrender my financial burdens to You. Remove my fears and teach me to rest in Your faithful care. Provide for my family as You provide for the birds of the air, and let me find peace in Your promises.

5. Psalm 37:25

“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.” (ESV)

This verse testifies to God’s unfailing provision across generations. St. Matthew’s journey reminds us that following Christ never leaves us abandoned but draws us into His care. Trusting in God allows us to face financial difficulties with confidence in His faithfulness.

Lord, I pray through St. Matthew’s intercession that You meet every need I face. Keep me from fear and strengthen my faith in Your everlasting promises. May my household never lack, and may I learn to give thanks for Your daily provision.

6. Deuteronomy 8:18

“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that wealth and provision come from God’s hand, not our own efforts alone. St. Matthew’s life transformation shows how God can redirect our talents and resources for His kingdom. We must acknowledge Him as the true source of our blessings.

Gracious Father, through St. Matthew’s intercession, help me remember that all provision comes from You. Grant me the wisdom to use my skills faithfully and to trust You for increase. Provide me with opportunities to grow and prosper while keeping my heart humble. May I never forget that You are the One who sustains me each day.

7. Malachi 3:10

“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” (ESV)

God invites His people to trust Him with their giving, promising abundant blessings in return. St. Matthew understood the value of storing up treasures in heaven rather than earthly wealth. This verse reminds us that obedience unlocks God’s provision.

Lord, I ask with St. Matthew’s intercession for courage to be faithful in my giving. Teach me to trust Your promise that generosity brings blessing. Pour out Your provision in my life, filling every need and showing me the abundance of heaven. Help me rely fully on You in every financial matter.

8. 2 Corinthians 9:8

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” (ESV)

This verse teaches that God provides not just enough, but more than enough, to empower us for generosity and good works. St. Matthew’s call reflects God’s ability to transform our lives and supply us abundantly. Financial provision is not only for our needs but also to bless others.

Father, through St. Matthew’s intercession, pour out Your abundant grace upon me. Meet my needs and equip me to bless others from the overflow. May sufficiency in all things draw me closer to You and strengthen my faith. Let my life reflect Your goodness and generosity in every circumstance.

9. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (ESV)

This verse reassures us that God’s plans are always good, even when we face financial uncertainty. St. Matthew’s surrender to Christ shows that trusting God leads to a hopeful future. We can rely on His promises to guide us through challenges.

Lord, through the intercession of St. Matthew, help me to trust Your plans for my life. When money troubles bring fear, remind me of Your promises of hope and peace. Grant me clarity, wisdom, and the faith to walk in confidence that You are working all things together for my good.

10. Psalm 23:1

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (KJV)

This beloved verse reminds us that God, like a shepherd, provides and protects His flock. St. Matthew found his true security in following Christ, who supplied all that he needed. We can rest knowing that God will not leave us lacking.

Father, I ask for Your care and provision through St. Matthew’s intercession. Lead me as my Shepherd, guiding me to peace, provision, and safety. Remove my fear of lack and strengthen my trust that You will always care for me and my family. May I walk in the assurance of Your loving guidance.

11. Proverbs 22:4

“The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that humility before God brings blessings beyond measure. St. Matthew’s humility in leaving behind wealth to follow Jesus led to eternal reward. Our attitude toward God matters more than our bank account.

Lord, through St. Matthew’s intercession, teach me humility in times of financial difficulty. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You and not on worldly status. Grant me both spiritual and material blessings as You see fit, and let my life glorify You in abundance and in need.

12. Psalm 34:10

“The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” (ESV)

Those who seek God find that He provides everything necessary for life. St. Matthew’s testimony shows the reward of faithfully pursuing Christ above all else. God’s goodness ensures that His people will not be left empty.

Father, I call upon You with St. Matthew’s intercession to meet my needs and calm my fears. Help me to seek You daily, knowing that every good thing comes from You. Provide for my household and let us see Your blessings in unexpected ways. May my heart always remember that You are faithful to those who love You.

13. Matthew 7:7

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (ESV)

This verse encourages us to bring our requests boldly before God. St. Matthew himself experienced Jesus’ call and responded, showing us that persistence brings blessings. God is eager to answer prayers that are aligned with His will.

Lord, with the help of St. Matthew, I come boldly to You with my financial needs. Open doors of opportunity, provide clarity in my decisions, and give me courage to keep asking in faith. May I never lose hope but remain steadfast, knowing You hear my cries and will respond in Your perfect time.

14. James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (ESV)

Financial struggles often require wisdom as much as provision. St. Matthew’s decision to follow Christ reflects wisdom rooted in trust and faith. This verse assures us that God generously gives wisdom to those who ask.

Father, I ask You, through the intercession of St. Matthew, to bless me with wisdom in my financial decisions. Guide me away from poor choices and lead me into opportunities that bring stability and peace. May Your wisdom direct my steps and open the way to blessings that sustain and uplift my life.

15. Hebrews 13:5

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that money should never be the center of our lives. St. Matthew turned from the pursuit of wealth to the joy of serving Christ. True contentment is found in God’s presence, not possessions.

Lord, I ask with St. Matthew’s intercession to help me release my fears about finances. Teach me to be content while still trusting You for provision. May I find comfort in Your promise never to leave or forsake me, no matter what my circumstances may be.

16. Luke 6:38

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (ESV)

Generosity creates a cycle of blessing that God honors. St. Matthew understood the call to give up earthly gain for eternal treasure. When we give with open hearts, we invite God’s abundance into our lives.

Father, through St. Matthew’s intercession, grant me a generous heart even in times of struggle. Remind me that giving is an act of faith, and that You will always provide in return. Let my generosity be a channel for Your blessings, both in my life and in the lives of others.

17. Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (ESV)

This verse promises strength and help in times of fear and uncertainty. St. Matthew trusted God’s strength when he left behind his career to follow Jesus. We can rest in knowing that God holds us firmly even in financial storms.

Lord, I ask through St. Matthew’s intercession for courage to overcome my financial fears. Strengthen me when I feel weak, and uphold me when I cannot see the way forward. May Your righteous hand guide me to peace, provision, and the courage to trust You always.

18. Romans 8:32

“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that God, who gave His Son, will surely provide everything else we need. St. Matthew’s encounter with Christ reflects the depth of God’s generosity. If He gave us His best, He will not withhold lesser things.

Father, through the intercession of St. Matthew, I place my trust in Your generosity. Remind me that You love me so deeply that nothing I need is too great for You to provide. Give me peace in my heart and confidence that You will graciously meet every need.

19. Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (ESV)

This verse comforts those weighed down by financial burdens. St. Matthew, who once lived burdened by sin, found rest in following Christ. Jesus invites us to find peace in Him, even in times of financial stress.

Lord, I come to You weary and burdened, asking St. Matthew to intercede for me. Give me rest from my financial worries and calm the anxieties that overwhelm me. Provide not only for my material needs but also for peace in my heart as I trust You fully.

20. Psalm 145:16

“You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.” (ESV)

This verse shows God’s open-handed generosity toward all creation. St. Matthew’s story reminds us that God satisfies deeper desires than money alone can fulfill. His provision sustains both body and soul.

Father, through St. Matthew’s intercession, I ask for Your open hand of blessing in my life. Satisfy my needs and calm the restless desires within me. Provide for my household, strengthen my faith, and teach me to see Your generosity in every part of my life.

21. Matthew 19:26

“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that no financial problem is too great for God to handle. St. Matthew witnessed Jesus perform miracles that defied human understanding. We are invited to place our trust in the God of the impossible.

Lord, I ask through St. Matthew’s intercession to strengthen my faith when finances seem overwhelming. Show me that You are greater than my problems and capable of doing the impossible. Provide solutions I cannot see and miracles that only You can bring.

22. 1 Timothy 6:17

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” (ESV)

This verse warns against placing hope in wealth, which is uncertain. St. Matthew teaches us to set our hope in Christ rather than riches. God alone provides lasting joy and stability.

Lord, I ask through St. Matthew’s intercession to keep my heart focused on You rather than money. Guard me from pride and from trusting in uncertain wealth. Provide for me generously, and let my joy be rooted in Your unchanging love.

23. John 14:13–14

“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (ESV)

This verse reminds us that prayer in Jesus’ name is powerful and effective. St. Matthew shows us that following Christ brings access to God’s promises. When we pray for financial help, we must trust that God hears and answers.

Lord, through St. Matthew’s intercession, I lift my financial struggles to You in Jesus’ name. Grant me relief, open new doors, and provide for every need I face. May Your name be glorified in the blessings that come, and may my faith remain steadfast as I trust in You.

Conclusion

As we reflect on these prayers and scriptures, we are reminded that God’s Word offers hope and direction in times of financial need. St. Matthew’s life shows us that true riches come from trusting God and following Christ faithfully. When we bring our burdens to Him, He promises to provide not only for our needs but also for our peace and strength.

Through these prayers, we can approach God with confidence, asking for provision, wisdom, and courage. By seeking St. Matthew’s intercession, we are reminded that God listens to the cries of His people and responds with love. May every person who lifts these prayers find comfort in His promises and discover His faithful hand at work in their lives.
